Childish Intelligence

When we first met we were young,
Short, squeaky, and pure,
I think it’s pretty impressive,
For you to have caught me on a lure.
I was too little to understand love,
But still you caught my eye,
Even when my child’s heart beat quietly,
I wanted to be your guy.
I learned from my parents,
So in around a week,
I walked up to,
And kissed you on the cheek.
The last thing anyone expected,
Including me,
I wanted you to know I existed,
I wanted you to see.
I brought you dandelions,
Flowers to a child,
My face felt hot,
Not simply mild.
Funny how I still love you now,
After all of these years,
Yet still I’m a coward,
Can’t overcome my fears.
It’s been ten years since I met you,
Since that unforgettable day,
Even as a kid I understood,
You chase away the gray.
